In Rwanda, Alight implements health, nutrition, protection, and livelihoods programs in collaboration with UNHCR, MINEMA, and other partners. The goal is to improve the wellbeing and self-reliance of refugees from eastern DRC and Burundi through the provision of essential services such as healthcare, HIV/AIDS prevention, and livelihoods support in refugee camps and transit centers across the country.


Purpose of the Position

The Pharmacist Coordinator will lead the implementation of standardized pharmaceutical supply chain management systems to ensure the effective and timely delivery of drugs and medical supplies to Alight health facilities.

This role involves ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health (MoH), World Health Organization (WHO), and Alight’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for procurement, storage, distribution, and quality assurance of medical supplies.

The coordinator will also act as a technical advisor, providing mentorship and capacity building to pharmacists, nurses, and logistics teams, while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Program & Technical Leadership

  • Develop, review, and ensure adherence to Alight’s Pharmaceutical Supply Chain SOPs.

  • Provide mentorship to field pharmacists and health staff on proper drug storage and MoH standards.

  • Lead implementation of pharmacy improvement initiatives across Alight-supported health sites.

  • Serve as interim pharmacist in the field when needed.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Organize and conduct training sessions on pharmaceutical and inventory management.

  • Build staff capacity on quantification, pharmacovigilance, and rational drug use.

Monitoring & Compliance

  • Conduct regular supervision visits to ensure proper storage, temperature control, and reporting.

  • Review and validate monthly stock and consumption reports from health facilities.

  • Ensure full compliance with Alight and MoH pharmaceutical regulations.

Supply Chain & Procurement

  • Approve drug purchase and supply requests in line with Alight policies.

  • Perform consumption analysis and re-order planning to avoid stockouts.

  • Liaise with MoH’s Pharmaceutical Task Force for regulatory compliance.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Submit consolidated monthly reports to the Operations, Logistics, and Program teams.

  • Contribute technical input to donor reports and internal audits.

  • Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to ensure budget alignment.


Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.

  • Valid Pharmacist License in Rwanda.

  • Additional training in supply chain management is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in pharmacy or medical supply chain management.

  • Proven expertise in pharmacovigilance, cold chain management, and drug interaction knowledge.

  • Experience working with humanitarian or public health programs.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and reporting skills.

  • High integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in inventory tracking systems and Microsoft Office.

Language:

  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda required; French is an added asset.
