The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is now accepting applications for its 2025–2026 Visiting Research Scholarship Program. This program allows Harvard faculty to sponsor international collaborators for a 6-week in-residence research experience at Harvard University.

HGHI is dedicated to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in global health, bringing together experts across medicine, public health, law, business, policy, and other disciplines. HGHI partners with scholars, governments, and organizations worldwide to design learning opportunities and create evidence-based solutions to improve human health.
Program Benefits

Fully funded 6-week in-residence research experience at Harvard

Lump-sum stipend covering housing, flights, health insurance, J-1 visa fees, and daily per diem

Academic appointment through the sponsoring Harvard department
Eligibility Requirements
For Harvard Faculty Sponsors:

Must be a Harvard faculty member (any school or affiliated hospital)

Must demonstrate existing collaboration with visiting scholar (e.g., publications, curriculum development, policy work)

Department must agree to provide academic appointment (HUID) and sponsor J-1 visa
-
Must develop a work plan and meet regularly with the visiting scholar
For Visiting Scholars:

Must have a doctoral degree (exceptional master’s degree holders considered)

Must show significant prior collaboration with the Harvard sponsor
-
Must hold an active passport and be able to obtain a J-1 visa
-
Must reside in Boston, MA during the fellowship period

Must meet English language visa requirements
Priority Consideration
Preference will be given to scholars who would otherwise lack the opportunity to attend such a program, and to projects aligned with HGHI priority areas:

Global health financing
-
Health justice
-
Community-engaged programming

Harvard faculty can submit a sponsorship request through the official application link (opening soon). Applications must include:

Visiting scholar’s CV
-
1–2 page research collaboration narrative

Letter from scholar’s home institution permitting 6-week leave

Letter from sponsoring faculty describing the work plan and justification
