Mayfair Insurance Company Rwanda Ltd is seeking a qualified Accountant Officer to join their team at the Kigali Heights Head-Office. Established in May 2017, Mayfair Insurance Rwanda is a general insurance company regulated by the National Bank of Rwanda. The company offers a variety of insurance products and is part of the broader Mayfair Insurance network across East and Southern Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, DRC, and Botswana. Job Purpose

The Accountant Officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and supporting the overall finance operations of the company. This role ensures compliance with statutory regulations while providing timely and precise financial information to management.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Record Keeping and Reporting

    • Verify documentation and prepare payments for disbursement.

    • Examine bank statements and reconcile them with general ledger entries.

    • Prepare and file monthly statutory deductions, including PAYE, RSSB, VAT, and maternity contributions.

    • Produce accurate and error-free accounting reports for management.

  2. Accounting Controls and Policies

    • Maintain accounting controls by recommending and preparing policies and procedures.

    • Review and suggest modifications to accounting systems and procedures.

    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.

  3. Staff Coordination and Guidance

    • Guide and supervise accounting clerical staff, coordinating their activities and answering questions.

    • Train and supervise the assistant accountant to ensure high performance and adherence to company policies.

  4. Technical and Financial Support

    • Provide technical support and advice on financial management issues.

    • Contribute to the department’s goal setting process and participate in financial forecasting.

    • Support month-end and year-end close processes, working collaboratively with internal and external auditors.

    • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and uphold customer confidence.

  5. Client Interaction

    • Communicate effectively with clients and contribute to strong client relationships through positive interactions.

    • Support the finance team in providing high-quality services to clients and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • Progress towards a professional qualification such as CPA or ACCA (advanced level) is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in insurance or related financial institutions.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and international financial reporting standards (IFRS).

  • Familiarity with Rwandan tax laws and regulations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with accounting software, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliation.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda; basic French is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
