The MEXT University Recommendation (UR) Scholarship, offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT), provides outstanding international graduate applicants the opportunity to pursue their studies at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) with full financial support.

Selected scholars will benefit from:

• Full tuition coverage,

• Monthly stipend for living expenses,

• Health insurance,

• Books and study materials,

• Round-trip airfare.

How It Works

1. Apply directly to APU and indicate interest in the MEXT UR Scholarship.

2. APU conducts an internal screening and selects top candidates.

3. Recommended candidates are forwarded to MEXT for the final decision.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Apply for September 2026 enrollment only

• Be a national of a MEXT-designated country

• Be born on or after April 2, 1991

• Hold a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale from their most recent university

• Not be active military personnel or civilian military staff

• Not have previously received a MEXT scholarship (unless more than 3 years have passed or through special designated programs)

• Hold a “Student” visa status in Japan

• Not receive other conflicting scholarships not approved for concurrent receipt with MEXT

Scholarship Benefits

• Full tuition waiver

• Monthly stipend of approximately ¥144,000 (including housing allowance, subject to change)

• Health and medical insurance

• Books and academic materials

• Round-trip economy-class airfare between the student’s home country and APU

Application Timeline

• Application deadline at APU: 12 November 2025

• APU conducts screening and recommends selected applicants to MEXT

• Final decisions announced by MEXT, typically by June 2026 (timing may vary)
