Aim and Benefits of Skoltech Postgraduate Scholarship

  • Students receive a scholarship based on the results of the competitive selection: for MSc students: 40,000 rubles per month; for PhD students: 75,000 rubles per month
  • International students are covered by insurance in accordance with the local Skoltech policies
  • All students can take part in different academic exchange programs with Russian and foreign universities

Requirements for Skoltech Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

For master’s programs

  • An bachelor’s or specialist degree or its equivalent, from an accredited university.

For doctoral programs

  • An appropriate master’s or specialist degree or its equivalent, from an accredited university.
  • As we receive more applications each year from excellent candidates than we have places available, meeting the minimum admissions requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission.

Successful applicants have generally received previous education and training in fields relevant to our programs, including:

  • Computer science, computer engineering, computational mathematics, mathematics and applied mathematics, informatics, etc.
  • Physics, applied physics
  • Chemistry, chemical engineering
  • Biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, systems biology
  • Materials science and engineering
  • Aerospace science and engineering, astrophysics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Petroleum and gas engineering, geophysics, geology, geological engineering

Students whose primary education is in the humanities, business, or social sciences must have significant training in a field related to one of Skoltech’s programs.

English language

All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English, the language of instruction at Skoltech. A minimum score:

  • 72 on the TOEFL iBT,
  • 543 on the TOEFL ITP
  • 66 on “Linguatest” (Academic English)
  • The valid Duolingo English Test (DET) certificate confirming a level of English language proficiency of at least B2

TOEFL certificate should be valid for 2 years after the test date. Linguatest has no time limit. A TOEFL or Linguatest score is not required if the applicant received a degree at a university where the medium of instruction is English.

Do I need to take the GRE exam?

  • Submission of a General GRE score is not a requirement of the Skoltech application. However, it is encouraged and may enhance your application. For further information on the GRE test please visit the ETS website for test locations, dates, and times. Skoltech’s institutional code for the GRE is D819.

What is the minimum required GPA for Skoltech?

  • There are no minimum GPA requirements, however the average student GPA for 2017 was between 4.8 and 5.0. This means that while some students received higher marks than average, others received just below 4.7. The application committee looks at the application package as a whole. Due to the large international pool of applicants, the faculty is aware of a variety of grading scales.
