Through its flagship product Gwiza, MVend digitizes savings group (VSLA) operations, helping members build credit histories and access micro-loans. Over 3,800 savings groups across Rwanda currently use the Gwiza App.
MVend is also a key partner in the KATAZA Project, led by the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) and supported by the Mastercard Foundation, promoting financial inclusion and access to digital financial services nationwide.
Purpose of the Role
The Reconciliation & Liquidation Accountant ensures accurate and timely reconciliation, settlement, and liquidation of financial transactions across MVend’s platforms — maintaining financial integrity, minimizing errors, and supporting operational efficiency in compliance with regulatory and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Reconciliation & Settlement

Perform daily reconciliations for all financial channels (mobile, card, and bank transfers).

Generate reports on unsettled/disputed transactions and escalate items older than 30 days.

Monitor intercompany accounts and merchant settlements for accuracy.

Review and reconcile bank statements; prepare related financial reports.
Liquidation & Funding

Support timely liquidation of partner and project accounts.

Track account balances, initiate funding and closure processes, and ensure audit trails.
Accounting & Financial Support
-
Prepare and post customer invoices; follow up on outstanding payments.

Verify supplier invoices and prepare payments per company policy.

Assist in payroll review and budget monitoring.

Maintain proper filing of all financial records.
Compliance & Fraud Monitoring

Ensure compliance with IFRS and RRA tax regulations (VAT, WHT, etc.).

Prepare statutory tax returns and support audits.

Collaborate with fraud and risk teams to report suspicious activities.
Reporting & Analysis

Provide daily dashboards summarizing aged items, settlement statuses, and reconciliation progress.

Highlight discrepancies, trends, and risks.
Process Improvement
-
Recommend and implement workflow enhancements to increase accuracy and efficiency.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Timeliness and accuracy of daily reconciliations.

Number and aging of unresolved transactions.

Compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.

Fraud detection and reporting effectiveness.
Working Relationships

Internal: Finance, Tech, Operations, Customer Support, Risk & Compliance.

External: Banks, Payment Providers, Auditors, Regulatory Authorities.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA/ACCA (part or full) is an added advantage.

2–4 years’ experience in reconciliation and settlement (preferably in FinTech, Banking, or Telecom).

Strong Excel and data analysis skills.

Good understanding of payment systems and financial controls.
