Internship Office Background
The Communications Unit at UNDP Rwanda is responsible for enhancing visibility, outreach, and positioning of the Country Office. It manages communication strategies, social media, media engagement, high-level events, and the production of advocacy materials. The Unit highlights UNDP’s contribution to Rwanda’s Vision 2050, the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), and the SDGs.
This internship offers hands-on experience in strategic communications, content creation, campaign design, and stakeholder engagement within an international development setting.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Social Media Management & Content Creation (40%)

Draft, edit, and schedule posts across UNDP Rwanda platforms (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube).

Monitor engagement, trends, and analytics.

Organize social media calendars aligned with campaigns.
2. Communications Campaigns & Knowledge Products (40%)

Assist in planning and executing communications campaigns.

Contribute to stories, web articles, newsletters, and other content.

Support visual/multimedia content (basic photography, graphics, short videos).
3. Administrative & Logistical Support (15%)
-
Assist with event communications and live coverage.

Maintain communications databases, archives, and photo libraries.

Provide administrative support (meeting notes, procurement, documentation).
4. Other Tasks (5%)
-
Support ad hoc communications-related activities, including research and partner visibility.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
-
Final-year Bachelor’s student, enrolled in a Master’s programme, or graduated within the last year.
-
Fields: Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, or related.
Skills:
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
-
Familiarity with social media platforms.
-
Basic design/video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Suite, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) are an asset.

Strong online research and content creation abilities.
Languages:
-
Fluency in English is required.
-
Knowledge of French and/or Kinyarwanda is a strong asset.

Other UN languages are an advantage.

Internship Conditions

Unpaid position – all costs borne by intern or sponsor.

Health insurance is mandatory.

Interns arrange their own visa, travel, and accommodation.

Internship does not guarantee future employment with UNDP.

Full-time expected, with flexibility for education programmes.
